About the Fokker Dr.I Triplane:

The Fokker Dr.I (Dreidecker - triplane) was a World War I fighter aircraft built by Fokker-Flugzeugwerke and designed by Reinhold Platz. Introduced in 1917, the Dr.I became forever associated with the Red Baron, who achieved his final 19 victories flying this distinctive triplane. While only 320 were built and it served for less than a year, the Dr.I's unique three-wing configuration and association with von Richthofen made it the most iconic aircraft of WWI.

The Red Baron - Aviation's Greatest Legend:

Rittmeister Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen, known as the "Red Baron," was the most successful fighter pilot of World War I, with 80 confirmed air combat victories. He painted his aircraft bright red, making him instantly recognizable to friend and foe alike. His all-red Fokker Dr.I became a symbol of German air superiority and struck fear into Allied pilots across the Western Front. Von Richthofen was not only a skilled pilot but also a brilliant tactician who led the elite Jagdstaffel 11 and later the larger Jagdgeschwader 1, known as "The Flying Circus" for their brightly painted aircraft.

Moritz - The Baron's Faithful Companion:

This set uniquely includes Moritz, von Richthofen's beloved Great Dane who was a constant companion at the airfield. Moritz became famous in his own right and was often photographed with the Red Baron and his squadron mates, adding a personal touch to this legendary story.

The Triplane's Advantage:

The Dr.I's three-wing design provided exceptional maneuverability and rate of climb, allowing skilled pilots like von Richthofen to outmaneuver Allied fighters in dogfights. Though not the fastest aircraft, its ability to turn tightly and climb rapidly made it deadly in the hands of an expert pilot. The triplane could "hang on its propeller" and perform maneuvers that other aircraft couldn't match.

Perfect for: WWI aviation enthusiasts, history buffs, COBI collectors, young builders ages 6+, and anyone fascinated by the most famous pilot and aircraft in aviation history
